school of skilled trades

The School of Skilled Trades is home to the Ford Centre for Excellence in Manufacturing and is one of the top 50 research colleges in Canada. Our students have access to these resources and partnerships to provide a unique advantage to their education. We offer several dedicated skilled trade labs with designated space for electrical, plumbing and carpentry. Our programming extends from welding techniques, motive power technician, pre-service firefighter education and training in areas such as horticulture and hairstyling.

Where Skills Are Built

In addition to our skilled trades labs, our main campus has a 110-acre arboretum with tropical plants and greenhouses, an automotive building, as well as a two-bay fire station.

A yellow, stylized depiction of a griffin, the mythical mascot of Chatham Campus, with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle, is shown on a transparent background. The creature stands upright on its hind legs with its wings spread and its mouth open.

Real-world Experience

Many of our faculty have worked or operated a business in the field they are teaching. While our labs feature the same equipment that would be used in the field, our small class sizes provide students with the foundational knowledge and a connection to real-world experiences through work-integrated learning and industry partnerships. Graduates of our School of Skilled Trades programs often find careers in their fields within six months of completing their programs.
