Our region is recognized as having the largest cluster of tool and mold and manufacturing in North America. St. Clair College is home to the Ford Centre for Excellence in Manufacturing and is one of the top 50 research colleges in Canada. Our students have access to these resources and partnerships to provide a unique advantage to their education. This is evident in the many industry acknowledgments the school holds. For example, The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) recognizes graduates of the Pre-Service Firefighter program as candidates for employment in the CAF.
Our School of Skilled Trades has a dedicated skilled trades lab with designated space for electrical, plumbing, and carpentry. Our programming extends from welding techniques, motive power technician, pre-service firefighter education, and training in areas such as horticulture and hairstyling. In addition to our skilled trades labs, our main campus has a 110-acre arboretum with tropical plants and greenhouses, an automotive building, as well as a two-bay fire station.
Many of our faculty have worked or operated a business in the field they are teaching. While our labs feature the same equipment that would be used in the field, our small class sizes provide students with the foundational knowledge and a connection to real-world experiences through work-integrated learning and industry partnerships. Graduates of our School of Skilled Trades programs often find careers in their fields within six months of completing their programs.
The main campus boasts a number of academic buildings including the Centre for Applied Health Sciences, the Zekelman Centre for Business and Information Technology, the Ford Centre for Excellence in Manufacturing and the Centre for Construction Innovation & Production (CCIP) which supports our skilled trades programs. The CCIP building holds cubicles with gravel floors, electrical panels, circuits, and plumbing, providing individual lab spaces for hands-on learning. Our skilled trades lab facility provides an ideal space for students studying in the electrical, plumbing and carpentry trades.
Today’s skilled trades professionals are in high demand in a wide variety of careers. Energy, manufacturing, transportation, and automotive sectors provide numerous career opportunities.
